MGM National Harbor debuts with Top Chef Masters Winner
D.C.s food community has a well-known reputation, especially for its Ethiopian community which has been breeding a new era of chefs. This has led to D.C. being known as one of the nation’s premier food cities. Someone who’s admired the city is celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, who will be opening at the MGM National Harbor Casino Resort
The Top Chef Masters winner was “a given” according to the Red Rooster Harlem owner who was present at the $1.4 billion opening which took place on the 8th of December 2016.
“The restaurant scene in D.C. has gone through the roof, which is super exciting,” says Samuelsson, who has had the privilege of cooking at The White House. Marcus will be cooking for a 208-seat dining room including in-room dining in the 308-room hotel.
Situated at the Vegas-style resort is Marcus, which is one of three restaurants led by well-known chefs whose owners are hoping that the destination dining will soon see more visitors. These visitors are expected to be seen visiting the following establishments: FISH owned by restaurateur Jose’ Andre’s and Oxon Hill which is a big attraction. This also includes Maryland Crab Cakes, Lobster Jambalaya and Chesapeake Oysters which have a deck overlooking the Potomac River will be turned into a crab shack in the warmer months.
Brothers Michael and Bryan Voltaggio are opening their first joint venture – Voltaggio Brothers Steak House. The steak house will house a library and a living room, the reason being that the restaurant is designed to suggest a home environment. “It’ll literally look like you’re walking into someone’s house,” says Alison Bybee, MGM National Harbor’s vice president of food and beverage.
The restaurant will include the following: A Pan-Asian Restaurant Ginger and a TAP Sports Bar. This also includes a Pastry shop Bellagio Patisserie is featuring a magnificent 12-foot-high chocolate fountain, which is a replica of the one at the Bellagio Las Vegas.
The MGM National Harbor is the only MGM casino resort without a buffet. “We’re finding a lot more sophisticated diners who are looking for great, chef quality food,” Bybee says. Poker and blackjack players can look forward to the National Market, which features ten food and beverage stalls. These will include favorites Pappas Crabcakes and Shake Shack.
“We’re bringing in what the Murren family considers one of the best crab cakes you can find,” Jim says. “We’re finding local food gems that are unique to the region.”
