The Commonwealth Bank is stepping into the future with Apple. With a tap of the finger, users of the CommBank App will be able to check their bank balance on the Apple Watch. Users will also be able to search for the nearest ATMs and make Cardless Cash withdrawals at ATMs.
CommBank forms part of a small group of local companies to board the Apple wrist train. The Australian Bank made the announcement after property websites realestate.com.au and Domain announced that they will be launching home hunting apps. Supermarket titan Woolworths will also be releasing a shopping list app and Invoice2Go has created an app that allows you to streamline customer invoicing.
Lisa Frazier, General Manager for Digital Channels at Commonwealth bank, said in a statement that the watch is an addition of the CommBank app which also makes mobile banking conducive.
“Smart watches represent the next exciting generation of personal mobile devices. We are at the start of a new way of banking and together with our customers’ passion for mobile and cardless banking, we will lead in developing ways to fully leverage the capabilities of smart watches,” Frazier said.
The bank app is a testament of innovation, with the ‘Tap and Pay’ functionality, users whose device is using Android 4.4 (KitKat) will be able to use it. This functionality allows users to make payment on the terminal with a single tap. Should a customer not have the Android 4.4, they can affix a PayTag on the back of their phone as this will allow them to get the same results.
Currently, this payment option has not been made available on the Apple Watch in Australia.
