Logies 2016: The Big Winners
He took home the night’s coveted Gold Logie Award – Waleed Aly is fast becoming TV’s next rising star! Dubbed TV’s newest golden boy, winning Australia’s biggest prize, which is worth more than you know, Walled Aly is definitely worth watching on the small screen. A year on the screen and Waleed Aly has won over the Australian audiences as he walked away with the prestigious TV Week Gold Logie Award.
Beating his fellow PROJECT co-hosts and last year’s winner Carrie Bickmore including social media favorite Lee Lin Chin – Waleed Aly dominated the 2016 Logies.
“It’s very humbling, there is a statement being made by the audience when that happens, and that’s incredibly flattering. Because I never honesty thought of myself as really ever being in the conversation,” Walled tells TV WEEK. “It’s a real surprise, because I’ve always kind of assumed Logies were for other people,” Waleed said after taking the award for Best Presenter.
With two Gold Logie winners hosting the how, THE PROJECT is an award-winning show that’s bound to get more viewers. The show also walked away with the Best News Panel or Current Affair Program award. “It’s an extraordinary sense of validation that you get. Because when you walk into a job like this, there is so much scope for doing badly and there is so much scope for being rejected by an audience that has grown attached to what the show was before you got there, Walled said.
The highest honour of the night came when the crowd roared as TV legend and A Place To Call Home actress Noni Hazlehurst was inducted into the TV WEEK Logies Hall of Fame.
“I’m really proud to be recognised. But, there are many equally deserving women who should have been acknowledged before this. Hopefully, the glacier will keep moving forward, Noni told TV WEEK.
